Great hard-to-find compilation featuring some seriously rare funk and breaks gems, with a b-boy angle. The all-time break-beat classic ‘Apache’ features, but in a funky reggae incarnation, courtesy of Byron Lee, and there’s plenty of other curious versions here, including a take on Dr John’s famous ‘Right Place, Wrong Time’, as well as ‘Burning Spear’ (the original being sampled by Pete Rock), ‘For The Love Of Money’, ‘Family Affair’ and ‘Funky’ (the original sampled by A Tribe Called Quest’). Interestingly, there’s also the Isely Brother’s killer track ‘Keep On Doing It’, which sounds uncannily like an early version of the J.B’s legendary track ‘The Grunt’. All-in-all, there’s more than enough here to keep even the most addicted vinyl junkie interested! Highly recommended!
